THE BASICS
of
                       Ordering a Custom Rifle.

What you need to know FIRST.

Having a rifle built or rebarreled is not a complicated process as many of people think. By folowing these steps and gaining the information you need now, makes your decisons easier and takes a lot of stress out of the project. Removing this stress makes the entire Custom Rifle experience enjoyable.

Actions700action.jpg

The first step in ordering a custom rifle is deciding what chambering (Round) you want to shoot. The chambering will decide which size action you will need to use. (Long, Short, or Magnum). Actions will range in price from $350 to as much as $2000 depending on what you want. The most popular actions are the Remington 700, Winchester Model 70, and Sako's. They run $400 to $600. Stainless steel and Left hand actions are a little more. All actions require a certain amount of action work to squeeze every ounce of accuracy from them. This action work is called "blueprinting."

We can use your supplied action or you can order your action from us brand new. It's your choice.

Barrels

The Barrel is of the greatest importance. If I had to choose one single
component makes an accurate rifle, it would be the barrel. The top Manufacturers of barrels such as Hart, Shilen, Kriger, Obermeyer, and Lilga just to name a few, all make great barrels. My favorite barrel is manufactured by Hart barrels. Barrels are in the price range of around $300 to $500. Extra features such as Fluting and Cryogenics will cost extra. I am a firm believer of Cryogenics. Rebarreling your rifle is the first step in the quest for ultimate accuracy.

Which to choose? Wood or Synthetic? Synthetic Stocks are more weather resistant and cost less than wood. The normal price range for synthetic stocks is between $300 to $500. You get what you pay for.

Wood is another story, a finished plain wood stock will start around $500. I have used wood blanks with an unfinished (Blank) price of $900 on up. With another $500 for Furniture and finishing, the cost really adds up. There is also Wood Laminate stocks that I have used with great success. They have the warmth of wood and the strength and weather resistance of synthetics.

Regardless of what stock you choose, you will need rifle bedding to make your rifle as accurate as it can be.

Everything Else

Everything else depends on how far you want to go. There are hundreds of things that we can do for looks and accuracy. Metal finishing and coating is big stuff today and worth every penny. Other techiniques and accessories that are popular are trigger work, titanium firing pins, and custom action work.
