This knife was designed by Dustin (Dusty) Mattern
for calf cutting and general ranch use. These
rugged Norwegian High Carbon blades are more durable in severe service than most ordinary blades. Forge laminated from three
layers of special steel alloys. The outer layers are flexible layers of spring stock that provide flex and shock resistance.
The center core is high carbon cutlery steel, hardened to a greater degree than most other blades. Quick and easy to sharpen,
this hardened cutlery steel core will hold a razor's edge.
Handle tangs are annealed, Blades are ground, polished.
Be careful! These blades are very sharp, and tend to stay that way. Blade is 2-3/4" long. High carbon Norwegian steel .076" thick.
This is a very small knife. The bullet is a 45 Long
Colt for comparison.

The Handle is the same length as the blade. Made from a Whitetail
deer tine that can handle years of use. Finger grooves cut into the handle make for quick and easy extraction from the sheath.
Brass Guard, and Mule Leather Harness spacer.
The Horizontal Sheath is made by none other than Robert Jones. His Hand Stitched sheath is a
work of art in itself. Nicely antiqued and rugged. Hand fitted to each and every Calf Kutter knife.
Why Hand
Stitched? "Though slower, hand sewing is superior to machine sewing. It
is the best method of stitching two or more pieces of leather together for lasting years of wear and service."
There are thousands of different sewing machines, designed for multiple or specific uses. The most common of the machine
stitches is called the "lock" stitch. This is made with a top thread and a bottom thread ... which is in a small
spool called the "bobbin". The lock stitch is formed by the top threadgoing around the bobbin spool, picking up
the bottom htread, toform a loop. Whn properly adjusted, the loop is pulled between the two thicknesses of materials being
sewn. The cut-a-way illustratoins below show the differences in the LOCK STITCH ... and the HAND STITCH.
